Cavaliers Embark on International Trip

Virginia to Play in Africa & Canary Islands

The University of Virginia women’s basketball team will embark upon an international excursion next week.

The Cavaliers will depart on Tuesday, May 22 for a 10-day trip to Senegal and the Canary Islands. The trip is sponsored by World Wide Basketball, Inc.

“What a great opportunity for our kids!” head coach Debbie Ryan said. “To visit Africa and everything it entails, we can’t wait. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

The tentative itinerary includes four days in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, a tour of Goree Island and Bandia Wild Animal Park, as well as two basketball games. The second half of the trip will be spent on the beautiful island of Gran Canaria. In addition to two basketball games, the Cavaliers will enjoy sunbathing, shopping, and tours of the islands.

Jeff House Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia has named Jeff House as an assistant women’s basketball coach, head coach Debbie Ryan announced on Friday.

“I am thrilled to be joining a great coaching staff at the University of Virginia,” House said. ” The academic prestige of the university, the rich basketball tradition Debbie Ryan has built, and the power of the ACC are such great opportunities for me.
